Protecting Your Eyes From Blue Light

As an increasing number of individuals are embracing blue light lenses for their eyeglasses, it is important to understand the benefits they offer. Many of us are aware that scrolling through our screens late at night can be detrimental to our health, but do we know why? By delving deeper, we can gain a better understanding of the issue at hand.

It is essential to take proper care of our eyes, and we would like to offer some helpful tips to ensure that your optical health is optimal.

In other words, let us keep those eyes happy and healthy!

What is blue light and how do blue light glasses help?

What is blue light?

The visible light spectrum comprises eight different coloured light rays, including blue light. When combined with other colours such as red, orange, yellow, green, indigo, and violet, it forms white light or what we know as sunlight. Although blue light is mostly present in sunlight, it is also emitted by various artificial lights such as UV fluorescent and LED lights. Furthermore, blue light is also present in electronic devices like phones, tablets, computers, and TV screens.

What is the problem with blue light?

The wavelengths of blue light are notably shorter compared to other colours and are similar to the wavelengths that LED lights in digital devices emit. As a result, blue light has higher energy levels which can lead to more harm when it is absorbed by the cells in our bodies.

Extended exposure to blue light can result in various problems, including dry eyes, blurred vision, and head and neck discomfort. Studies have revealed that prolonged exposure to blue light can cause serious vision issues. The direct passage of blue light to the retina can increase the likelihood of developing retinal diseases like macular degeneration.

Be kind to your eyes

It is safe to say that almost everyone nowadays spends a significant amount of time staring at their screens. Whether for work, entertainment, or communication, screens have become an integral part of our daily lives.

However, with the recent increase in screen time due to the pandemic, it is important to reassess how we prioritise our eye health. Implementing screen filters on our devices and taking frequent breaks can make a significant difference. It is crucial to remember to put our phones down and give our eyes a well-deserved break. –  Phones down!

Try light-filtering lenses

We always recommend wearing sunglasses on bright days – and even cloudy ones if you are sensitive to glare. Some people find it helps to have blue light filtering lenses in their glasses for computer work, or any digital device use.

If you want this kind of protection indoors and out, our light-responsive lenses give even more blue light filtration in sunlight.

Protect your peepers

So, do we need to worry about ruining our eyes every time we send a message? No, Problems tend to arise after prolonged use, and research is ongoing to assess the effects of blue light exposure over our lifetimes.

The smart thing to do is look after our eyes as carefully as we do our general wellbeing. We wish you a happy, healthy viewing!
